Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Easy-E, Arabian Prince and DJ Yella, from Southern California, helped define gangster rap and the attitude that fueled their rhymes. During the group's rise, N.W.A received a letter from the F.B.I urging them to rethink their image and lyrical themes, as the agency's director believed the group promoted violence and disdain for law enforcement. The group instead saw the letter as a great opportunity to promote the group.
