The Mercedes Ladies, consisting of Sheri Sher, DJ RD Smiley, Tracy T, Eve-a-Def, Zena-Z, DJ La Spank and DJ Baby D, formed around 1976, making them the first all -female rap group. The Mercedes Ladies were the sister group of the Original L Brothers. Together with DJ Grand Wizard Theodore, Mean Gene, Busy Bee Starski, they performed with names such as Kevie-Kev, Busy Bee Starski, Master Rob, Bambaataa, Red Alert, Kool Herc, The Furious Five, The Cold Crush Brothers, Grandmixer DST etc. The Mercedes Ladies hosted parties and rapped for the crowd. The group has never released a single song as they have never recorded any or been part of a record label. The girls often faced sexism and difficulties in their attempts to make it, as clubs booked them and then refused to pay them for their performances.
